The Jura Mountains and Zügspitze
The Jura Mountains are mostly in France and Switzerland, but are also partially in Austria and, of course, Germany. The Jura Mountains fall into the German highland area in South-West Germany. The Jura Mountains cover half of the highland area in Germany, the other half being the Black Forest.
The Jura Mountains are formed from limestone and contains many fossils. The fossils are from the Jurassic period which is how the mountains got their name (Jurassic).
However, the Jura Mountains aren't very important as only a fraction of them lie in Germany, but Zügspitze is.
Zügspitze is Germany's tallest mountain, close to the Austrian border. Zügspitze is an astonishing 2,962 meters high and is a popular winter holiday resort.
