The Treaty of Versailles (1919)
At the end of World War 1 (1914 - 1918) the Allies wouldn't go up to the German leaders and say, "Sorry about that, old chap, just got a trifle carried away, you know?" To which the Germans would respond, "The fault was mine entirely, I trust those millions of men and millions of pounds worth of weapons and suchlike did not mean anything to you?"
The answer is, of course, no. It was very much different. There had to be a treaty of some sort...
The Treaty of Versailles (pronounced verse - eye). Versailles, in France near Paris, was where the treaty was organised and signed. Germany's military strength was reduced considerably to this:
