The Thirty Years War

The Thirty Years War (1618 – 1648) was fought over theProtestant Reformation. Remember the section in this site on Martin Luther causing so many people to convert to a new religion? Well, that is the same Reformation.

The Thirty Years War, between the Roman Catholics with their church and the Protesters who had changed to their own religion, was fought mainly in Germany (where the problem arose). The Thirty Years War only began 50 years after the Reformation, but that 50 years had been filled by shorter battles.

The Protesters had help in the war from Denmark, Sweden and France. There were others but those were the main supporters.

The war was awful and Germany was devastated, but after 30 years the fighting ended. The Protestants got their way.
