Wigman, Mary (1886 - 1973)

Now, as we move on in the arts we must come to this at some stage: dance.

A great German dancer, and a great influence on Europe's modern dance, Mary Wigman is quite famous in a dancer's world.

Mary was born in Hanover, 1886, and studied under the famous Swiss teacher Emile Jaques Dalcroze.
When trained Mary toured Germany and Switzerland and finally in 1920 opened her own dance school in Dresdon (Europe's centre of classical dance)
Approx. 1933 Mary's school was closed by Nazis
After World War 11 Mary re-opened her school in Leipzig
She soon after travelled to Berlin where she did some of her most famous works

Mary Wigman died in 1973.
