Wigman, Mary (1886 - 1973)
Now, as we move on in the arts we must come to this at some
stage: dance.
A great German dancer, and a great influence on Europe's
modern dance, Mary Wigman is quite famous in a dancer's world.
- Mary was born in Hanover, 1886, and studied under the
famous Swiss teacher Emile Jaques Dalcroze.
- When trained Mary toured Germany and Switzerland and
finally in 1920 opened her own dance school in Dresdon (Europe's
centre of classical dance)
- Approx. 1933 Mary's school was closed by Nazis
- After World War 11 Mary
re-opened her school in Leipzig
- She soon after travelled to Berlin where she did some of
her most famous works
Mary Wigman died in 1973.
